Freezer Running Constantly? Three Things To Try

Your freezer should not make constant noise. It should make noise on and off throughout the day, but you should not hear constant loud sounds coming from your freezer. Here are a few things that you can try to get your freezer to stop running all the time.

Check The Thermostat

The first thing that you need to do is check the thermostat inside of your freezer. Your thermostat controls your compressor, which is the sound that you hear coming from your freezer constantly. If your thermostat is set-up wrong, it could cause your compressor to run constantly. For example, if the temperature inside of your freezer is set too low, your compressor will continually run in a continued effort to get your freezer to the desired low temperature. Try turning your thermostat up a setting or two and see if this turns your compressor off.

If increasing the temperature of your thermostat does not cause your compressor to turn off, your thermostat may be damaged. If this is the case, you are going to need to contact an appliance repair company like American Appliance INC and have them fix your thermostat.

Check The Gasket

The second thing you need to do is check the gasket around your freezer door. The gasket around your freezer door helps keep the warm air out of your freezer and seals the cold air inside of your freezer. When the gasket gets damaged, warm air is able to constantly get inside of your freezer, thus constantly raising the temperature inside of your freezer and causing the compressor to run all the time.

If you can see a crack or cut in the gasket, you need to replace it. If you can slip a piece of paper around your freezer door, that is another sign that your gasket is not keeping things well sealed.

It is really easy to replace the gasket around your freezer. You just need to use a tool to pry it off. Then, clean the area where the gasket was located, measure the new area, and push the new gasket down into place.

To ensure that the gasket works well, you should allow the new gasket to sit inside of your house for a day so that it can adjust to the ambient temperature. This will make it more flexible and pliable.

If these two methods do not work, call in a service repair technician to examine your freezer and find out the root cause of the constant noise.
